Our classrooms

At Maitland Farm, children learn by doing, moving, touching, manipulating and exploring. We provide indoor and outdoor classroom environments that encourage children's natural sense of adventure.

The 2's

With only 12 students for 2 teachers, the 2's classrooms provide a focused attention to our littlest learners. This year is all about taking first steps towards independence in a play based curriculum focused on:

  • Speech & communication

  • An understanding of emotions

  • Body coordination

  • Learning to play with materials appropriately

the 3's

The 3's classrooms provide a world of engagement as children start working in a more cooperative role amongst their peers. With a maximum of 18 students in the class for every 2 teachers, this year is focused on:

  • Turn taking & waiting

  • Imaginative play

  • Building vocabulary

  • Sharing & empathy

  • Working in a cooperative setting

  • Life skills such as bathroom independence

the 4's

Our "big kids" of the school in the 4's classrooms are working on Kindergarten readiness in their final year at Maitland. Each classroom has a maximum of 20 students per 2 teachers who focus on skills such as:

​

  • Problem solving skills with appropriate language & behavior

  • Exploring reading and writing skills

  • Introduction of phonics

  • Math concepts

  • Thoughtfully performing and completing tasks
